What Iowa Weather Does to a Des Moines Roof
A roof in Central Iowa works harder than most. Hail and high winds roll through every spring and summer, and winter brings ice and freeze-thaw cycles. The damage usually shows up in the same handful of places.

Hail
Hail bruises shingles and knocks granules loose. You often can't see it from the ground, but it shortens the life of the roof.
Ice Dams
Snow melts, refreezes at the eaves, and backs water up under the shingles. Poor attic ventilation makes it worse.
Freeze and Thaw
Repeated freezing and thawing works on sealant, flashing, and any spot where water already gets in.
High Wind
Wind lifts shingle edges and breaks the seal between rows. Once that seal is gone, the next storm does more damage.
